Sandy Eggers, Golden Follies
Broadway/Jazz
A MAJOR inspiration to Broadminded, and a cast member of our west coast production, Sandy is still rocking stages at age 81 with California’s The Golden Follies, a high-energy, Las Vegas-style senior revue, performing showgirl, broadway, jazz, and tap. It’s no exaggeration to say many people half her age couldn’t keep up with Sandy’s footwork OR the unbelievable amount of Golden Follies costume changes.
Born and raised in a small, Kansas college town, Sandy started ballet at age 4, and was en pointe by age 6. She continued studying dance, as well as musical theater, in high school, then college, eventually working her way up to choreographing productions. After moving to Massachusetts, she danced with regional companies Dans pro Musica and Ballet Arts, and was resident choreographer and co-managing director of community theatre for Arena Civic Theatre in Greenfield, MA. She continued her dance studies at Smith College and University of Massachusetts, Amherst and also taught jazz, ballet, and musical theater to a variety of students.
Moving to California gave Sandy the opportunity to study at the San Francisco Ballet and with Bay Area dance legend Richard Gibson. She performed in the 1986 San Francisco Ballet Nutcracker, “at age 42,” she emphasized. She also taught and choreographed for the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre. She is a graduate of the Ballroom Dance Teachers College and was an early member of the Golden State Dance Team. She also competed Pro/Am in International Standard form, and American Smooth.
Around age 65, after retiring from corporate work in Silicon Valley, Sandy joined The Golden Follies and continues to dance for sold-out crowds to this day. Because women are amazing, it should be noted that Sandy did all this while raising her two sons, who are “both talented, musically and artistically. They have supported and encouraged me in all my dance aspirations,” said Sandy. “It’s a joy for me to be their mom.”
